Construction of rectangular FRP ductwork as part of the flue gas desulphurization system in an 80 MW steam turbine.
This ducting system replaced the existing metallic system that had been degraded by corrosion.
Operating Conditions
The design specifications were very demanding, with an operating temperature of 99ºC and an internal pressure of 2000 Pa.
In addition the exhaust gases from the preheater carried sulphuric acid at a concentration of 50%.
Material
The ducts were manufactured in FRP. Because of the operating conditions (input to and output from the absorber), the resins used were a novolac (high temperature) vinylester epoxy resin, and a bisphenol-A (low temperature) vinylester epoxy resin.
